Spring has Sprung

What makes spring official?

The disappearance of snow? We really didn't have much this year.

The return of 50 degree temps? Those have been a dime a dozen this winter season.

Certainly the crocus bursting with color says spring's time has come!

Perhaps spring is here at the first hint of green in a winter wheat field...

Maybe spring's arrival is announced by luxurious, fresh green, new growth on strawberry plants snuggled nicely under their winter wrap of straw?

Or the emergence of new garlic, just poking their pointy heads through their toasty winter quarters...

Spring is official not by a date nor a plant, not by a level of mercury nor a lack of snow. When one glimpses that first, fat, round, red-breasted robin...

then it's safe to say spring has sprung!

March 10--the official beginning of spring at Overhome Farm in 2012.
